Family Fencing at DFC
One of the great success doesn't come from tournament results but from how many families enjoy fencing together. Here Nathan Anderson is talking to David and Pearl Rutherford during a fencing class. Their children, Emily and Evan are top foil fencers in the state in their age groups. The entire Rutherford family come down to DFC to take the intermediate foil class.

No Picture New Mexico Open
We had five fencers go down to the New Mexico Open. It is a great event that has been going on for about 25+ years. I (Nathan) am a huge fan of this event since I won Open Foil in 1997. I try to go down ever year but this year, I couldn't. Our fencers faired well with Mary Wilkerson winning the Women's Saber and Eva Heinrich made the finals of the Women's Foil. Our top male finisher was Russell Gibson who finished 11th in a tough Open Mixed Foil field.

Friday Night Fights: Unrated Foil (September 7, 2007)

The first tournament and DFC first Friday Night Fight (Unrated Foil) was won by Evan Rutherford(far right) of the Denver Fencing Center. Evan Rutherford, age 13, used his youthful speed and guile to defeat nearly all adult field.

Bart Miller, of South Denver Fencing Academy, took 2nd while Eva Heinrich (Denver Fencing Center) and Bruce Ward (Denver Fencing Center) (far left) tied for Bronze. With his victory, Evan Rutherford earned his 'E' rating. His victory come less than one year after his sister Emily earned her rating by winning the Women's Foil event at 2006 Nick Toth tournament at the Air Force Academy, her first adult tournament. Lucky for the adult fencers, Evan and Emily have no other siblings to watch out for.
