Dear Golden Fencers, their parents, and supporters of Fencing in Golden,

When I opened Golden as a full time facility three years ago, I envisioned a full time coach taking on the challenges that I manage daily in Denver.  When the full time coach left, Paul Von Rentzell took on these challenges even though he had a full time job as a teacher.   Over the last two years, he has built a Golden club that produced rated fencers in all three weapons and put fencers on the National Points List.

However, Paul Von Rentzell’s full time job has moved to Denver.  The building itself is up for sale and needs major renovations.  We believe we cannot keep two full time facilities going at the high level of quality you have come to expect, so starting today, October 18, we will run our last six week section of classes in Golden and close the facility on December 6th.  After that date, we invite you to come to Denver to take your classes and lessons.  Coach Von will restart his classes in January and he hopes you will rejoin him here.

We will make the transition easier by:

  1. Coach Von Rentzell will teach the same classes in Denver as he did at Golden.
  2. Saturday classes will be expanded to include beginner, foil, epee, and sabre classes and open fencing will run from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. every Saturday.  By doing this, even if you can only make it to Denver on Saturdays, you can maximize the value of your Silver Membership.
  3. We will create a car pool list to allow parents and fencers to work together to come to Denver.
  4. We will have full size lockers available for rent , so that you don’t have to drag your bag every time you go to fencing.

I believe that having all of the DFC fencers and coaches together will create a stronger club. We will have in Denver a 14+ strip facility that we will be expanding even further upon your arrival, and a larger number of fencers with which to practice and improve everyone’s skills.

We look forward to seeing you here after the holidays.

Sincerely,

Nathan Anderson
